Which smart door lock is best for an HDB main door?
For an HDB main door, the deciding factor is the door itself rather than the brand. Most HDB main doors are fire-rated timber with a mortise lock, which rules out many slim retrofit models and points to a mortise-style digital lock. We check the door thickness, the existing lockset and whether there is a gate to coordinate with, then recommend accordingly and integrate it into the same app as your cameras.
Do home security cameras need a monthly subscription in Singapore?
Not if the footage records at home. Cloud camera brands charge a recurring fee per camera to store video on their servers, and it grows as you add cameras. A network video recorder in your own home stores months of footage with no ongoing cost, and you still get remote viewing from your phone.
Do CCTV cameras keep recording if the internet goes down?
Ours do. The cameras and the recorder sit on the same network inside your home, so recording continues whether or not the connection to the outside world is up. Cloud cameras stop the moment the line drops, because the recording lives elsewhere. What you lose during an outage is remote viewing, not the footage itself.
Can I install CCTV in an HDB flat, and where can cameras point?
Yes, inside your own unit. The usual approach is a camera covering the entrance and one indoors, plus a doorbell camera at the door. Cameras that overlook the common corridor need care, as HDB and your neighbours have a legitimate interest in what they capture, so we angle them at your own doorway. We wire rather than rely on Wi-Fi, because bomb shelter walls block signal badly.
Can a smart home help elderly parents living alone?
Yes, and usually without cameras in private rooms. Motion and door sensors can tell you that the morning routine happened without watching anyone. A video intercom lets them see and speak to whoever is at the door without opening it. Lights can come on automatically on the route to the bathroom at night. You get reassurance; they keep their privacy.
How long does a home CCTV system keep footage?
Typically several weeks to a few months, depending on how many cameras you run, the resolution and the drive size. A recorder overwrites the oldest footage once it fills, so the window stays constant. We size the drive to the coverage you actually want rather than selling the largest one, and tell you the expected retention before installation.
